Every few years Hollywood needs to remind us about the wonders of space. And I don’t mean Michael Bay’s Armageddon. I really mean NASA and the space program. From Apollo 13 to the Emmy award-winning From the Earth to the Moon, NASA is as American as hot dogs and apple pie. Now Damien Chazelle, fresh from his Oscar win for La La Land reteams with Ryan Gosling for First Man.
The drama takes audiences behind the first manned mission to the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong (Gosling) and the Apollo program up through his historic Apollo 11 flight. Based on the book by James R. Hansen, the story, which is told through Armstrong’s perspective, depicts the toll and the cost the mission had on his family and colleagues. The script is penned by Josh Singer, who knows a thing or two about telling a good story (he also wrote Spotlight and The Post). Steven Spielberg serves as one of the film’s executive producers.
First Man will take flight from Universal Pictures on October 12th.
