Beloved Blade Runner Universe To Be Expanded!

THR reports:

‘Blade Runner 2049’ Screenwriter Expands Story with Comic Book

Michael Green will work with Mike Johnson on Titan Comics’ upcoming project.
Blade Runner 2049 was only the beginning of the relationship between screenwriter Michael Green and the Replicant-filled future of Rick Deckard and K. Titan Comics, and Alcon Media Group revealed at New York Comic Con that Green and long-term collaborator Mike Johnson will script the comic book continuation of the movie series.

The two have previously collaborated on a number of comic projects, including DC Entertainment’s Superman/Batman and the New 52 relaunch of Supergirl. Johnson is no stranger to licensed comic book material, having written for IDW’s Star Trek and Transformers titles, as well as DC’s Fringe, based on the Fox television series.

Green, of course, is known for his work on the Blade Runner 2049 screenplay, as well as writing Alien: Covenant, Murder on the Orient Express and Logan, which he co-wrote with Scott Frank and director James Mangold, and earned him an Academy Award nomination.

In a statement about the announcement, Green said, “Every iteration of the Blade Runner world throws the window open a little wider. Mike and I can’t wait to see what we find outside.”

Alcon Media founders Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove add, “Michael Green and Mike Johnson’s clear grasp of the tone and nuance that defines the Blade Runner universe makes them ideal partners on this exciting new comic book venture with Titan Comics. We are eager to continue to expand and explore this fascinating world with such a qualified and talented team.”

Titan’s agreement with Alcon, announced in July, covers both comic book and book expansions and explorations of the world established in the Ridley Scott and Denis Villeneuve’s science fiction movies. More details about the comic book project, including release date and art teams, will be announced in upcoming months.
