In what looks to mix Saw with Game Night, Sony Pictures has unveiled the first trailer to Escape Room. When six strangers each receive a mysterious package and unlock its contents they find themselves participants in an escape room. But what starts out as fun and games becomes far more sinister as the room provides challenging obstacles. They must find the clues or else die.
While the month of January is a dumping ground for studios unsure of where to put releases, I will say that this trailer provides some interesting visuals (like a condo suite that may just be an oven to an upside down bar and pool hall). Rating may be a deciding factor if horror fanatics want to see the fatalities associated with obstacles the strangers can’t overcome. Will we be getting Final Destination-type kills or those where parental guidance is suggested for those under the age of thirteen?
Escape Room comes from Adam Robitel, who recently helmed Insidious: The Last Key. The cast features Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, Deborah Ann Woll, Jay Ellis, Tyler Labine, Nik Dodani, with Yorick van Wageningen.
