Marvel Comics Universe and Extermination #4 Spoilers follows.
Why Did Young Cable Kill Older Cable and The Secrets Of Marvel’s Future & Past As Uncanny X-Men Disassembled Looms?
The book opens with the storyline catch-up, dramatis personae and creators’ credits page.
Young Cable is subdued by Jean Grey.
He explains that he retired his older self because he got soft and didn’t do his job of protecting the timeline and eliminating anomalies that threaten time. He turned a blind eye to the time displaced Uncanny X-Men Blue.
Cable opens up to Jean and indicates that Iceman is supposed to die, but we learn later in the issue another X-Men Blue member dies instead (full spoilers here) whose impact on the timeline is not known.
…even little changes to the timeline matter. He goes onto explain the horrendous toll on time the X-Men Blue staying in present time has caused to the timeline; wins becomes losses, etc.
We also learn why he removed Angel’s wings; he needs to have organic wings when he returns to the past not fire ones or metal ones.
Next up is the finale in Extermination #5.
What becomes of the time-displaced original Uncanny X-Men Blue?
