  • Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1 – I’ve always seen myself as the type of comic fan who is more likely to follow a writer before an artist or a character (in that order), but there’s something about Miles Morales that makes him stand out, and makes me love him more than characters I’ve spent my whole life reading about. I’ve missed Miles, so I’m really happy to see him coming back, and with the excellent Saladin Ahmed writing his adventures. I’m also a fan of Javier Garron, the book’s artist, so this should be great!
  • Outer Darkness #2 – The first issue of this new sci-fi fantasy series, written by John Layman, was fantastic. I’m excited to see more of this slightly humorous, necromantic take on Star Trek.
  • I’m also looking forward to new issues of Cemetery Beach, Mage, Oblivion Song, Black Panther, Doctor Aphra, Uncanny X-Men, X-Men Red (I’m going to miss this book – this lineup had a lot of potential for future stories), Dead Kings, and Infinite Dark. Not a bad week…

One of those weeks where I am picking up a lot of comics, but most of it are books that fall in the middle of runs so not a lot to talk about…

  • Fantastic Four Wedding Special #1 – Last Marvel wedding didn’t quite go as planned, so hopefully Ben and Alicia will actually make it to the alter…The new Fantastic Four series has shown Dan Slott is a great fit for Fantastic Four. Probably the comic I am most looking forward to this week!
  • Miles Morales Spider-Man #1 – Nicely timed with Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse coming out this week. Miles is such a great character, and I am glad to see he will have his own book again even with Bendis gone. Hopefully it will stick around for a while.
  • Batman Who Laughs #1 – Definitely one of the more interesting characters to come from DC Metal. Curious what they will do with him in this mini-series. I actually want to see a crossover between Batman Who Laughs and the Night Begins to Shine version of the Teen Titans Go…80’s Metal for the win!
  • Batman Damned #2 – The first issue of this was fine..a little forgettable, but nothing bad. It’s never good when a comic is remembered primarily because the 1st print run had a shot of Batman’s junk in it. And also sad that in DC’s adult line, they had to get rid of that shot in the digital and later drafts. So much for pushing the envelope…
