The Enemy Within is a new procedural drama series that follows the story of Erica Shepherd (played by Jennifer Carpenter), a former CIA operative who is now known as the most notorious traitor in American history. Shepherd is blackmailed into betraying U.S. officers in order to save her daughter Despite his better judgment, FBI agent Will Keaton (played by Morris Chestnut) is forced to turn to Shepherd to help him track down the same crimininal responsible for putting her behind bars.

The show feels like a spin off of <>The Blacklist, at least as far as its premise is concerned and it is one that features a plotline that we have seen before. Infamous villain gets captured by squeaky-clean hero only to dangle information about even bigger bad guy that results in a shade of great. It’s like Demolition Man with Wesley Snipes and Sylvester Stallone all over again. The difference, at least in the case of The Enemy Within, is that the show writers force you into sympathizing with both of the leads. On one hand, you understand that Will has a job to do but that works alongside the viewer seeing why Erica did what she did.

At CTV’s 2018 upfront presentation, I caught up with The Enemy Within‘s Morris Chestnut.
