During the ’50s, tiny creatures frightened movie goers by becoming as huge as a drive-in screen. How did they get this way? Quite a few became huge thanks to atomic blasts. But other were the creation of science. Tarantula has its roots in a well intended science experiment to make plants and animals larger so man could have a new source of food. The trouble happens when the wrong critter gets a dose and decides to make man his food. The movie was a big hit in 1955 and has remained popular on TV as part of Creature Double features.
