During the ’50s when Universal became to home of Science Fiction flicks, they went all out on This Island Earth. They broke open the budget and sprung for a Technicolor production instead of the usual black and white. They created fresh monsters with a script about aliens trying to contact humanity. The film was a hit. Now the film is getting a major upgrade to Blu-ray thanks to Scream Factory. Now the film has sort of been on Blu-ray before since it was the film within Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. But now you can see it without anyone taking and sitting between you and the TV. Plus this is the complete version of This Island Earth. Here’s the press release from Scream Factory:

When atomic scientist Dr. Meacham (Rex Reason, The Creature Walks Among Us) is chosen to take part in a top-secret research experiment in a remote lab, he quickly discovers that he is really involved in an evil scheme by alien Metalunans to take over Earth. After he and the gorgeous Dr. Adams (Faith Domergue, It Came From Beneath The Sea) make their escape shortly before the lab explodes, they are whisked away in a flying saucer to Metaluna, where they are blamed for the destruction.
