I love fifth weeks! A couple interesting debuts:

  • The Killers #1 – I’m always left a little dissatisfied by B. Clay Moore’s series, but they always have a ton of potential, so I’m down to try them out. He lands at Valiant, with a series I know nothing about, except that it apparently includes Ninjak. I’m curious.
  • Powers of X #1 – Last week’s House of X impressed and excited me in all the right ways, so I’m primed for Hickman’s companion title, even though I think it’s going to be mostly explaining a ton of retconning, which I don’t normally love.
  • I’m also looking forward to new issues of Black Panther, Captain America, and Paper Girls (the last one?).

  • Powers of X #1 – House of X was a great beginning to the Hickman era! A lot of new fresh ideas here with a lot of respect to the history of the characters. I do think it was typical Hickman where the characters all have a certain generic and interchangeable quality to them. Hickman seems to consider plot and world far more important than making sure each character had their own voice, but it actually worked for House of X. Definitely the book I am most excited to read this week.
  • Killers #1 – A spinoff from Ninjak coming from Valiant. Valiant has a weird publishing model where it is constantly ending series and spinning new minis from them. I typically enjoy the books that they put out, but at the same time it does feel like they put in as many “jumping off” points as they do jumping on points. I would rather have some consistency.
  • Knights Temporal #1 – Cullen Bunn’s new time travel story starring knights from the Crusades. Bunn puts out a lot of awesome indy books that catch my attention and this just looks like another solid title from Aftershock.
  • Secret Warps Iron Hammer Annual #1 – While I thought Infinity Wars was just okay, and this revisiting of the Infinity Warps concept has been much better. With more space and freedom, these books feel more like the old Marvel/DC Amalgam books that just something to help sell an event. This was a great five week event and if they maintain this quality, I would love to see more Infinity Warps.
