Power Rangers Lighting Collection Mighty Morphin Red & Zeo Gold Ranger SDCC 2019 Review

News, Reviews

Welcome, Primates! The Hasbro team has graciously donated a Power Rangers Lighting Collection Mighty Morphin Red Zeo Gold Ranger for review. It’s been awhile since I was in the Power Rangers game, but I had to do some research before my interview this year. For example, I knew Jason Lee Scott was the red ranger back in the day (I was 12 in ’93), but I had no clue who the Gold Ranger or what Power Rangers Zeo was in ’97 (I was too busy with the Attitude Era).

I was able to find a great article on Screenrant.com.

The article talks about who the Gold Ranger was and how it relates to the original red ranger.

Power Rangers Zeo eventually reveals the character to be an alien called Trey of Triforia. Triforia is a planet where everyone is an identical triplet, and the character is played by real-life triplets Tim, Ted, and Tom DiFilippo. The trio merges to become the Gold Ranger, but when Trey is injured, former Red Ranger Jason Lee Scott inherits his powers to become the new Gold Ranger.

I had originally thought this was just a two pack with the Red Ranger and White Ranger (former Green Ranger) from the equivalent of G1, but I was obviously schooled. Instead, these are two ranger personas/costumes worn by Jason Lee Scott.

The original press release gives some more details and descriptions:

Look for other collectible figures in this Lightning Collection, including Mighty Morphin White Ranger. Each sold separately. Available at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 and on Hasbro Pulse following the convention.

The box itself splits apart in the middle to reveal first the Power Blaster and then the two figures.

Both figures are both extremely posable. multiple joints in the arms, legs, and even an ab crunch make allow you to place these figures in any pose.

The figures come with a lot of neat accessories. Multiple heads are included as well as a Power Axe, Bow, Blades, Lance, Shield, and Sword. All of the weapons can then be combined into the Power Blaster.
