Blu-Ray Review – Game of Thrones (Season 8)

Blu-ray Reviews, Reviews

Going into the eight and final season of Game of Thrones, which managed to garner more viewers on pay cable than some shows on terrestrial television, put HBO, David Benioff and DB Weiss in the worst possible situation. Expectations were remarkably high for what had been one of the best reviewed and most watched shows on television.

Game of Thrones was expected to spawn no less than three spinoff shows and propelled Benioff and Weiss to control of the next Star Wars trilogy AND a nine figure Netflix deal.

By the end of the series Benioff and Weiss were officially profanities for fans of the show.

Trying to end something as iconic as Game of Thrones is a near impossible task; for all the great series that ended on perfect notes there are thousands out there that crashed and burned in the same infuriating manner as something like Dexter did. GoT was expected to join the ranks of Mad Men and Breaking Bad with an undeniably great final season and series finale.

After a season of wrapping up storylines from nearly a decade of television, GoT wrapped up with perhaps the most hated finale since Dexter… and based on the online vitriol, maybe the worst hated finale in television history.

It didn’t help that the show limped to it; this is easily the weakest season of the show. Even without holding it to the lofty standards of earlier seasons this is a genuinely bad overall season of the show that limped to the finish line and then died on it.

Nothing noteworthy.
