  • Doomsday Clock #12 – I’ve been skeptical that this comic was going to come out this week with all of the delays even with seeing updates on the art being done, etc. This has been a great series and it’s too bad the delays have hurt so much. I have a few theories on what may happen and I’m looking forward to seeing how this issue plays out. Also, I think the issue is 48 pages and seeing 48 pages of Frank’s art will be worth it alone as he’s been knocking it out of the park.

Mike Maillaro – I actually stopped reading around issue 6. I have all the issues, but wanted to read it all at once and was so tired of the delays. It will be nice to finally be able to read it…assuming the world doesn’t end before next Wednesday.

Joey: Can’t blame you there and some of the single issues might be more enjoyable reading it all together. I know a couple people who were frustrated with how a couple of issues were paced. This might not have been a problem if there wasn’t a three month wait in between issues. The Rorshach issue (5?) was a good issue, but I could understand someone being frustrated with the overall story not really moving forward while waiting for a long time.

Mike: For me, it’s mostly that I have a god awful memory. I would find myself having to reread the issues basically each time just to remember what was going on, and it just got frustrating.

  • Another big week, as Marvel tries to cram in some releases before the holidays.
  • Old Guard: Force Multiplied – I’d kind of forgotten about Greg Rucka’s series about immortal soldiers, but I liked it. I’m glad it’s back.
  • Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy – I think I’m always going to check out new Black Hammer books, especially if Jeff Lemire is going to be joined by Tonci Zonjic.
  • Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren – Okay, I do not like Kylo as he’s been portrayed in the movies, but when he’s wearing his mask, I think he looks hella cool, and I want to see how he’s drawn in the comics. I hope they can do something to make the character more interesting too.
  • Wonder Woman: Dead Earth – I just recently read Daniel Warren Johnson’s Extremity, and I’m so down to check out his Black Label post-Apocalyptic Wonder Woman story.
  • I’m looking forward to new issues of Black Panther, Black Stars Above, Daredevil, Fallen Angels, Family Tree, Farmhand, Guardians of the Galaxy, Invaders, Invisible Kingdom, Legion of Super-Heroes, Marauders, New Mutants, Once & Future, SFSX, Star Wars: Empire Ascendent, Vampirella, and X-Force.
  • I’m thinking of getting the first issue of the new Suicide Squad too…

  • Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy #1 – I love anything set in the Black Hammer universe, so really excited to pick this one up!
  • Batman #85 – Tom King’s last issue in his epic Batman run (though he will be still doing a Batman/Catwoman maxi-series next year). It’s had its ups and downs, but on a whole, it has been one amazing piece of work.
  • Suicide Squad #1 – Another Suicide Squad relaunch. I have been a fan of Suicide Squad through most of it’s incarnations, but it just feels like it never sticks around all that long. Maybe that is one of the strengths of the series, to be honest. But it does feel a bit weird.
  • Hardcore Reloaded #1 – An Image book that flies a bit under the radar. It sort of reminds me of the Altered Carbon books, but it’s still a pretty fresh spin. Glad to see it back on the shelves.
  • Project X-Mas #1 – Running a little late on this week’s column, so I get to cheat a bit and reveal that Project X-Mas is actually American Jesus. Which is one of the few Millar books I’ve never read, so that has no real meaning for me at all…
  • Heavy week for X-Men books this week. Even though X-Men #4 itself was delayed, you still get Excalibur, Fallen Angels, Marauders, New Mutants, and X-Force all in the same week. My poor aching budget.
