6 books this week.

  • Batman / Superman #6
  • Far Sector #3
  • Shazam #10
  • Superman #19
  • Wonder Woman #750
  • Year of the Villain Hell Arisen #2

I’m disappointed that Valiant has no Eternal Warrior, Archer & Armstrong, Ivar the Timewalker or a Ninjak title on shelves. I get that they have a plan to publish only a handful of books (or they did under the old leadership, but new owners seem to have the same approach for now), but for some reason Valiant’s immortals and super spy are the most compelling for me. I do read Bloodshot, as I am long-time fan, but I’d like to read a few more Valiant titles monthly, which I’m not doing.

I predominantly read DC, but I do get some Marvel, those that feel derivative, and I also get the odd AfterShock, IDW and Dynamite title too. I expect I’ll be doing a culling soon of my ongoing reads and that primarily will mean less DC and freeing up money for other things, perhaps some crowdfunded books or non comics things. Happy new year indeed.

This is another tiny week, making me think that next week is going to be a monster.

I’m looking forward to new issues of Black Panther, Family Tree, Guardians of the Galaxy (Al Ewing!), Marauders, Old Guard: Force Multiplied, Once & Future, and Vampirella.

  • Ruins Of Ravencroft Dracula #1 – I’ve really been enjoying this specials from Marvel. They have created a very interesting context for Ravencroft’s place in the Marvel Universe. I wasn’t expecting these to be as good as they are.
  • Wonder Woman #750 – Another huge anniversary issue for DC’s iconic characters. There is a great bunch of creators working on this one. A ten buck price tag is always a reason for me to cringe, but this is still an impressive feat and should certainly be celebrated.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy #1 – Al Ewing taking on Guardians of the Galaxy?? Real hard to say no to this one! Al Ewing is a superstar, and his name has been on many of my favorite Marvel comics from the last few years.
  • Edgar Allan Poe’s Snifter Of Terror Season 2 #4 (Of 6)
