Are The Scorpions Responsible For Ending The Cold War?

Did The Scorpions (Rock You Like a Hurricane, No One Like You and Big City Nights) collaborate with the CIA to pen the power ballad Wind of Change?

I am a child of the 80s and a reformed huge hair metal fan. After listening to the trailer for the Wind of Change podcast I am dusting off my jean jacket and throwing it back on in eager anticipation of the May 11th Spotify release. I’m  locked down at home in Los Angeles and desperate for entertainment. This eight-episode documentary series from journalist Patrick Radden Keefe just might do the trick.

Is it possible that a song from an East German band is responsible for the fall of the USSR? Did The Scorpions (Rock You Like a Hurricane, No One Like You and Big City Nights) collaborate with the CIA to pen the power ballad Wind of Change?

If you grew up in the era of Motley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Poison, Bon Jovi and like to ponder the occasional conspiracy theory then Wind of Change could be just what Dr. Feelgood ordered.

I had never heard this crazy tale but anything that involves 80s metal, Russia and peace on Earth has my curiosity completely piqued.

Give the trailer a listen and let us know if you’ll be tuning in and listening. Also, what’s your favorite band from the 80s? How tall was your hair? How fast was your car? So many questions.

For those of you unfamiliar with the song check out the video for Wind of Change:
