WWE Raw 5/4/20 Recap – MITB Qualifier Gauntlet

Reviews, Top Story

A Drew-Seth recap video starts things off before MVP’s VIP Lounge has Nia, Asuka, and Shayna of the women’s MITB competitors. Asuka dancing to Nia’s theme is tremendous. Shayna says she does her talking with her actions, which Asuka takes offense to. Asuka and Shayna knock Nia over the cheap furniture and send her outside. Lashley and Titus start off the MITB contender’s gauntlet match. Lashley spears him and Titus sells it by floating it mid-air. Lashley and Tozawa go at it with Tozawa hitting the trouble in paradise for nothing before the flip spear takes him out. Shelton’s out and hits a dragon whip, but Lashley just registers it and beats him with a spear.

Humberto Carrillo is out and Lashley gets DQed for kicking too much ass in the corner. Lashley spears Carrillo, who manages to fluke a victory by cradling Garza. Austin Theory is out and gets small packaged to take him out. Finally, AJ returns and taps him out with the calf crusher and he cuts a promo on making a new all-time great MITB moment by winning the match. Seth does a weird mid-ring interview saying that he will become WWE Champion once again. MVP talks to Shane Thorne and Brendan Vink as they face Ricochet and Cedric once again.

Vink eats a beating for a bit, but avoids some of Cedric’s offense before Thorne superkicks Ricochet and Vink big boots Ricochet to win it. Not sure why Cedric didn’t drop the fall here, but you’ve got to make new stars and this is a way to do it. Street Profits face off with the Viking Raiders in a non-title match with the Profits getting a lot of fast-break offense. This is the best showcase that the Raiders have had on the main roster, as this was a New Japan house show match on Raw. Viking Experience ends it.

MITB clips air throughout the show, with Edge’s debut MITB cash-in being the third-biggest moment. Hanson says he has respect for the Profits, and he even likes them – but the raid is on and they’re better. Aleister Black cuts a creepy smoky room promo about winning. Rey talks about being old and not having many shots at the title in his career left in him before repeating WWE’s tone-deaf catchphrase about the risk being worth the reward.

Charlotte comes out in a gaudy outfit before Liv Morgan comes down and Charlotte insults her before Liv tells her that not everyone has silver spoons shoved up their asses. She’ll be a champion and if that means dethroning a self-titled queen, then she’ll be blessed be and Charlotte says Liv doesn’t know who she is. Charlotte says she’s proud of having a silver spoon. HOW IS SHE A BABYFACE!? This leads to a quick match with Charlotte winning with the figure eight.

The number one MITB moment is said to be Seth’s title cash-in at WM 31. Drew and Murphy go at it with Seth at ringside. Murphy calls his shot with the same countdown Drew uses, but Drew claymores him to KO him. Seth hits a superkick, but eats a headbutt and evades the claymore. This was effective for the MITB main event build, although it’s hard to believe the event is only a handful of days away – this wasn’t a great go-home show in that regard.
