WTF is that Amazing Mary Jane book?

Amazing Mary Jane Volume 1: Down In Flames, Up In Smoke

James: I don’t actually know.

Mike: Quirky little series. MJ goes to Hollywood to be in a big budget action movie…only to find out the director is Mysterio in disguise, trying to turn over a bit of a new leaf. I am just into fun stories and don’t obsess over continuity, but I can imagine people not liking this one just because Mysterio is a bit hard to redeem. But MJ and Mysterio facing off against a lame version of the Sinister Six is just the kind of fun comic I like to rea

Matt: Sounds up my alley. The blatant weed title had me confused.

Mike: Lol I didn’t catch that title. Uhm yeah no idea how that got through the Marvel legal department!

As far as I can tell, there are no Marvel comics coming out this week (though there are some trades like the aforementioned High Times starring MJ. Strange because we actually got a few last week. As I have said every week lately, it’s impossible to keep up with what’s coming out in comic shops each week.

Action Comics #1022 – I know that Bendis isn’t to everyone’s tastes, but I have thought his work at DC has been great. This issue is part one of The House of Kent and features a team up with Superboy. As someone who started reading DC comics with the Death of Superman, I’ve always loved that version of Superboy, and Bendis has written him real well in Young Justice. Been looking forward to this issue for a while.

Birds of Prey #1 – Please not that this Birds of Prey Black Label one-shot from Brian Azzarello should not be confused with the Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey mini-series from Black Label by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti (the second issue of that is scheduled for June 23). I understand that these books were probably intended to help promote the movie, but that doesn’t make it any less confusing for your potential customer.

Catwoman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular #1 – Along with Birds of Prey, another 100 page comic for ten bucks. I really enjoyed the Robin 80th Anniversary special, but that price tag is a hard ask for me, especially since it’s very rare I actually enjoy Catwoman stories.

Nancy Drew And The Hardy Boys The Death Of Nancy Drew #1 – While I loath to use this term, the announcement of this comic really brought the virtue signalers out of the woodwork. OMG! How dare they do a comic where Nancy Drew dies and boys have to solve her death. Calm down people. This is comics. I am sure she’s not actually dead, or even if she is, she will be strongly involved in solving her own murder. Why can’t people just sit back and enjoy the ride anymore?

Shazam #12 – Mister Mind, Black Adam, the Monster Society, and Batman!! This issue has a little of everything! One of my favorite DC series, and this looks like a particularly wild issue!

The Boys – Dear Becky #1 – Sort of a sequel and prequel to The Boys at the same time. Hughie is settling down to get married to Annie when he discovers a document that reveals some of the secret history of The Boys. I only read The Boys last year, and thought it was one of Ennis’s best works. Curious what else he has to say in this world, and I hope this isn’t just a quick cash grab because of the TV series.

  • Batman Superman #9
  • Detective Comics #1022
  • Justice League Dark #22
