Marvel Comics Perpetuates Racism With X Of Swords September 2020 Solicitations! Why Has Scalphunter Not Been Renamed Yet?!

As part of Marvel Comics September offerings for its Dawn of X / X-Men Event X of Swords event is a tease that classic Marvel villain Scalphunter, an Indigenous / Native American member of the Marauders, will play a part and in event. Looks like it will be an important role since his first appearance will be reprinted.

Who is Scalphunter? Above is his classic Marvel Handbook bio for him. Since that bio, his real name has been revealed to be John Greycrow.

While scalping by Native Americans did occur as late is the latter part of the 1800s, it was terrible warfare trauma inflicted on enemies. It involved the tearing of a part of the human scalp, with hair attached, from the head, and keeping it is a trophy. The name Scalphunter is intended to evoke an offensive racial stereotype of Native Americans as savages. It is a term that should not be used anywhere in 2020.

So, why in 2020 does Marvel have a character named Scalphunter and why is he getting a high-profile without a name change?

Very tone deaf.
