IDW, Hasbro & Snake Eyes: Deadgame #1 Spoilers & Review: Rob Liefeld’s Take On G.I. Joe Icon Sees BIG Returns, A Pinch Of Mysticism, But Where’s Cobra?

Spoilers, Top Story

IDW, Hasbro and Snake Eyes: Deadgame #1 Spoilers and Review follows.

Rob Liefeld’s Take On The G.I. Joe Icon Brings Huge Returns Plus Lots Of New Mysticism and More, But Where Is Cobra?

Issue #2 includes another homage of a classic Liefeld New Mutants / X-Force cover this time by Mico Suayan but Liefeld won’t sign it for some reason or any variant covers prepared for Big Time Collectibles.

Anyhow, Snake Eyes: Deadgame #1 has loads of variant covers revealed over two whole pages.

The book opens well into the past, into history in fact, in a battle between some dressed as a blood red mummy battling IDW’s Norse thunder god Thor.

Then we pivot to modern day where silent ninja soldier Snake Eyes is…

…on a mission, but not against G.I. Joe’s archenemy Cobra, but another faction that…

…Roadblock and Tripwire have also broken into to…

…free the original G.I. Joe Joseph Colton!

Outside, the red mummy returns by seemingly stealing life from his worshippers and…

…is met by Snake Eyes’ bullets aka fire!

A battle ensues…

…and the blood mummy, really an immortal wizard named Kirigun, wonders if Snake Eyes is his much promised rival!

Snake Eyes is out of ammo…

…so fights the old fashioned way, but…

…is subdued by Kirigin who has a severe height advantage over our titular hero.

However, Scarlett and her pet wolf Timber come to Snake Eyes’ aid…

…infuriating Kirigin who promises a second battle with Snake Eyes that won’t end in a stalemate as…

…as the G.I. Joe team supporting Snake Eyes poses for a heroic shot to the end the action of the issue.

We close with a look at Snake Eyes: Deadgame #2 out on August 26, 2020.

The Pulse:

A solid debut issue that breathes new energy into the G.I. Joe franchise at IDW. Creative team firing on all cylinders delivering a vibrant and compelling issue that honors the past, but takes the franchise to a place it has it has not before. I am intrigued for what’s next. 8 out of 10.
