DC Comics Universe and Justice League #50 Spoilers and Review follows.

How Critical Are Milestone’s 36 Pages To…

… Upcoming Dark Nights: Death Metal Arc Doom Metal?

The answer to the question is “nil”; this storyline felt and read like it was inventory or a stock story that DC rolled out until it is time in their schedule to begin Doom Metal.

However, we have to wait until the two issues are out before we get there. The next twofer focuses on Black Mercy, so, it already has more of a cool factor than this last arc.

Justice League #51 is in stores on August 19, 2020 while Justice League #52 is on shelves on September 1, 2020.

Begin interlude.

What is Black Mercy?

If you’re not clear on what Black Mercy is, it debuted 1985’s Superman Annual #11, in the classic “For the Man Who Has Everything Story” by writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons.

It is telepathic plant that can take control of it host / prey; even the super-powered.

It is used by Mongul on Superman with the story ending with their fates reversed (apologies for the 35 year old spoilers).

Interestingly, when Superman is in Black Mercy’s thrall, he dreams of family on Krypton. He also realizes “this” is not real thereby weakening the Black Mercy’s hold.

In contrast, the book ends with Mongul ensnared dreaming of worlds’ domination.

End interlude.

It is Justice League #53, out on September 22, 2020, that kicks off the five part Doom Metal arc with Doom Metal part 1.

Justice League Annual #2, unrelated to Death Metal, arrives on September 29, 2020.

Doom Metal part 2 is out on October 6, 2020 in Justice League #54.

Justice League #55’s Doom Metal Part 3 lands on October 20, 2020.

The Pulse:

Justice League #50 had great art, but an uninspiring story. Nil rating.
