DC Comics Fumbles Detective Comics #1027 As It’s NOT The 1000th, But 1007th (Or Even 997th?!) Appearance Of Batman In That Series! (Sans Spoilers)

Detective Comics #1027 (full spoilers here, here and here) was originally billed as the 1000th appearance of Batman in that series.

You may recall that 1939’s Detective Comics #27 was where Batman first debuted purple gloves and all.

Conventional wisdom and, you know, math should have made the Joke War edition of TEC in Detective Comics #1026 (full spoilers here) the real 1000th appearance.

However, even that is not the 1000th appearance due to DC Comics having published 1034 issues of main Detective Comics series excluding Annuals which were never counted in the main run, but were always considered ancillary books.

Here are those other issues; 1994’s Detective Comics #0.

1998’s Detective Comics #1,000,000.

2012’s Detective Comics #0.

2013’s Detective Comics #23.1.

2013’s Detective Comics #23.2.

2013’s Detective Comics #23.3.

2013’s Detective Comics #23.4.

So, technically and mathematically that would make Detective Comics #1019 the 1000th appearance of Batman in Detective Comics series including volume 1 and 2.

Interesting.
