James Fulton

This week I’m looking forward to new issues of Bang, Decorum, Die, Far Sector, Fire Power, Lonely Receiver, Lost Soldiers, Marauders, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, No One’s Rose, Sacred Six, Spy Island, Star Wars, Thor, We Only Find them When They’re Dead, Wolverine, and X-Factor.

Babos: I see you’re all-in for X of Swords.

Fulton: I think it’s an all or nothing kind of thing. Either get it all, or stop reading the titles you do buy until it’s done. But, the only X-book I’m not picking up already is Excalibur…

Babos: I’m more looking forward to SWORD and Children of the Atom. I started reading the new X-Men series, but it was very slow. It’s picked up in the last few months. That said, X of Swords has been about as convoluted as Snyder’s Justice League and Metal books. Lots of complex new mythology.

Fulton: I agree completely. It’s like Hickman had another East of West in him and he’s adapted it to include the X-Men. So far it’s coherent but it could easily go off the rails.

I’m all in for SWORD, especially with Ewing writing it. Children of the Atom not so much – it has that Bendis future characters vibe I’m sick of, but I’ll flip through it. The fact that they delayed it makes me wonder if that’s just so it doesn’t conflict with XoS, or if they don’t have confidence in it.

Babos: Based on that Mark Brooks X of Swords teaser, I think one of the Children of the Atom characters may well debut in this event; unless my eyes are failing me. I agree that COTA may give off that vibe, but the premise is more fanboy’ish. I’m a big Bernard Chang back to his Doctor Mirage day’s. I’ll try it. Btw, the COTA technically debuted already. Did you see it?

Marvel Reveals Stealth Debut Dawn Of X’s Ultimate X-Men The Children Of The Atom Ahead Of Series Launch! Spoilers!

Fulton: I hadn’t seen it. I had no idea what Marvel Voices was so I ignored it.

I also loved Chang on Dr. Mirage back in the day

  • Batman The Maxx Arkham Dreams #4 – Glad to see this is finally out! Last issue came out in December 2018. I’ve been a huge fan of Maxx for a while now, and was really hoping this could springboard to some new Maxx stuff. It’s a world with unlimited storytelling potential. I am not sure if the delays mean that won’t happen (if that was ever the plan), but I will still enjoy what we got here.
  • Penultiman #1 (Of 5) – Fun premise for this book. In the far future, we have a man who is not quite as evolved as the rest of society. So he’s sent back in to the past where he would still be above the rest of humanity, even if in his own time, he’s considered a primitive, so he has a massive inferiority complex. Ahoy puts out a lot of real cool books, and this is one I have looked forward to for a long time.
  • Amazing Spider-Man #49 – The 850th issue of Amazing Spider-Man features the return of the Green Goblin. Issue 351 was my first issue of Spider-Man, and I have read basically every issue since. Not thrilled with the $10 price tag, but that is the norm for these anniversary issues. At least we get a Busiek backup in this one.
  • Champions #1, Magnificent Ms. Marvel #15, and Miles Morales Spider-Man #19 – Because of COVID, Marvel’s Outlawed storyline sort of got brushed off to the side. I love a lot of these characters, but Champions has been relaunched several times in the last few years. It just doesn’t feel like Marvel has any real idea to do with all of their teen characters. Outlawed feels like a watered down version of Civil War. Hopefully they will find a way to make it more engaging.
  • Orville Season 2.5 #2 (Of 4)
  • DCeased Dead Planet #4 (Of 6)
  • Justice League #54
  • Young Justice #19
  • Nancy Drew And The Hardy Boys The Death Of Nancy Drew #5
  • Locke And Key In Pale Battalions Go #2 (Of 3)
  • Sonic The Hedgehog Bad Guys #1 (Of 4)
  • Star Trek Deep Space Nine Too Long A Sacrifice #3 (Of 4)
  • Adventureman #4
  • Fire Power By Kirkman And Samnee #4
  • Black Widow #2
  • Fantastic Four #25
  • Marauders #13
  • Spider-Man Marvels Snapshot #1
  • Star Wars #7
  • Thor #8
  • Wolverine #6
  • X-Force #13
