Cyber Monday Is A Chopping Mall Marathon On Shout! Factory TV

News, Press Releases

People have forgotten the true meaning of Cyber Monday. Back in the late ’90s people had a system for holiday shopping. When it came to Christmas shopping during the Thanksgiving Day holiday weekend, people of the 20th Century did most of it in person at the Mall. They’d wake up early on Black Friday to grab those door busting deals. And they’d repeat it on Saturday and Sunday at Big Boxes, strip malls and random nit knack stores. Sunday night they’d go through your list and see what was missing so someone could order items at the new online retail websites on Monday. Why did they wait until Monday? Back then, people in their homes only whiny 56K or 28K modems that connected to AOL through phone numbers. During the holidays, these numbers could remain busy for hours. Even if you did connect, the time it took to open up a webpage could be several minutes if they weren’t loaded with graphics. You could wait an hour to see Amazon’s webpage. Even worse was getting kicked off by AOL and losing everything in your cart. Then you’d have to wait another two hours to connect once more. So how was Monday different? Because Monday you went back to work and could use your company’s T1 line to fly through Buy.com or 800.com to get those missing gifts. And your IT people didn’t rat you out since they were busy grabbing stuff on their jacked up tower system. Basically until lunchtime, everyone in the veal pens were shopping away. Thus Cyber Monday was born. Of course when high speed internet through DSL and cable came to houses, people didn’t have to abuse the work T1 line to get their holiday shopping wrapped up on Monday. There was no more busy signals from the 20 different AOL numbers. People can start shopping online via their smart phone while camped out in front of Walmart and getting ready for the violent melee to bust out over $12 toasters.

Somehow people have clung to Cyber Monday as an event when it no longer matters. But that’s fine for this Cyber Monday since Shout! Factory TV is giving us 24 hours of Chopping Mall. This is a masterpiece of mall nightmares as a bunch of kids want to have a freaky time after hours, but don’t know that the mall security robots have gone rogue. Here’s the details so you can celebrate Cyber Monday on the computer:
