Can New Eternals Series Succeed Where Inhumans Failed Ahead Of MCU Film Debut As An Iconic Villain Returns?!

Here’s a variant cover gallery for the debut issue.

Plus an Alex Ross variant.

Followed by the main cover.

There are few extras in the book that may help readers…

…maneuver this mythology.

Here’s the Marvel Handbook bios of…

…the classic Eternals in case you want to get some context.

The 2021 debut issue ends with…

…the death of Zuras the Prime Eternal.

That sets Ikaris and Sprite on a…

…journey from Olympia to…

…Titanos.

It is a volatile place…

…unlocking painful memories and…

…pain creating icons like Thanos!

The Pulse:

Most of the book involves a now female Sprite and Ikaris interplay. It wasn’t engaging for me. The real action was in the last few pages with the murder of the Prime Eternal and the return of Thanos. The Eternals mythology also seems multi-layered and rich, but wasn’t wholly clear in this debut issue. Art was excellent though. 6 out of 10.

That said, Marvel has been trying to elevate its franchises as their movie counterparts are set to come online. However, even before that, Marvel has been looking to expand beyond the Avengers, X-Men, etc. Inhumans received a big push and several series, but ultimately wasn’t sustainable in the long run. Is Eternals different? Can it endure? The movie “may” help, but I’m not sure. The Eternals film is scheduled to hit theatres on November 5,  2021 at this point.
