DC Comics and The Other History Of The DC Universe #2 Spoilers and Review follows.

New Teen Titans Only Have Room For 1 Black Character At A Time Plus…

…Supergirl, Superman and Crisis On Infinite Earths!

While issue #1 was told from Jefferson Pierce aka Black Lightning’s perspective (full spoilers here), issue #2 is told from the perspective of Mal Duncan aka Hornblower, The Herald, Vox and Guardian as well as his wife Karen Beecher-Duncan aka Bumblee.

It is another issue of interesting perspective shared from the black lens; the double standards, hypocrisy and implicit bias of the DC Universe Earth and preferential treatment of its white super-heroes even when they’re aliens like Supergirl.

When the New Teen Titans formed from the ashes of the Teen Titans that Mal and Karen were members of, they weren’t invited back, but they were happy for Cyborg who was fitting a one Black teammate quota that they believe DC Comics super-hero teams had at the time.

That said, the Crisis of Infinite Earths was eh first time that all of the DC Universe – not just its non-white residents this time – felt true loss including…

…Superman.

The Pulse:

Another biting like at DC history from the black perspective. Mal Duncan is definitely an example of DC not knowing what do with him over the years. Solid art. 8 out of 10.
