Plus the main cover.

There are more variant covers for the issue here.

We open in the past and learn about our heroine Val Riggs aka Sundog.

She was born with an eye condition that wasn’t readily treated.

She has a brother and had a family when the sky turned black and stayed black.

In the present, she drives a big rig…

…as a human caravan of sorts fighting off creatures that would consume them.

Val is still haunted by what happened the car with her family when the sky turned black.

Val ends her delivery and goes to get paid from her dispatcher.

After getting paid, she is confronted by an elderly passenger and his young ward; he has an ailment and needs to travel north.

Val leaves them uninterested, so that she can put her payment to good use fueling her brother Emory’s chemotherapy.

However, Val changes her mind and approaches the old man and decides to help him, but she’ll get paid; he’s Augustus and his ward his granddaughter Bailey.

Val, her brother Emory, Augustus and Bailey head off, but…

…someone is after her cargo.

Blacktop Bill is his name and he has a corrosive touch; he has no ill will towards Val, but want Augustus as he’s seemingly responsible for “killing the sun”.

Next up is Nocterra #2 in stores on April 7, 2021.

The Pulse:

A bit of a trippy story. It required a few reads by me to fill understand and immerse myself in this new world. It was a pleasure doing so and I don’t generally do re-reads. Art was amazing to boot. The action, drama and mysteries here are compelling. I’ll be back. 7.5 out of 10.
