NCIS: Hawai’i Season 1 Beats NCIS: New Orleans Viewership As NCIS Season 19 Roars Back With NCIS: Los Angeles Season 13 Debut Looming!

In adjusted national ratings, NCIS opened Season 19 with 8.5 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating (and a TVLine reader grade “A-“), easily delivering Monday’s biggest audience and down just a tick from last season’s averages. Leading out of that, NCIS: Hawai’i debuted with the night’s third largest audience (6.6 mil) and a 0.5 rating — the strongest retention of any Monday newbie.

The move to Monday nights was a major one for NCIS. Before making the move to Monday, NCIS aired on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET, which was its timeslot ever since it premiered on the network in 2003. In a statement to Variety, CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl suggested that moving NCIS to Monday nights wouldn’t make too much of an impact on the series’ success. Kahl told the outlet, “If you look at the proof of what does work, these franchises work. And they and they work on a multitude of levels. They generally get pretty darn good live ratings, they get good delayed viewing, and they stream pretty well. That’s a win-win-win. That’s a win for viewers, that’s a win for the shows, that’s a win for the companies that own them. That’s what we’re looking for these days.”
Last Season the NCIS Season 18 opened with 10.35M viewers with its season finale doing 8.96M viewers on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m.
The cancelled NCIS: New Orleans Season 7 opener did 4.65M viewers with its series finale doing 5.18M viewers on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
Its lead-in NCIS: Los Angeles Season 12 opener last year did 6.35M viewers and ended its season with 6.18M viewers also on Sundays at 9 p.m.
Tonight will see NCIS Season 19 episode 2 and NCIS: Hawai’i Season 1 episode 2 air.
NCIS: Los Angeles will have its Season 13 premiere on Sunday October 10th at 9 p.m. now the only the NCIS show on Sundays.
