DC Comics and Deathstroke Inc. #2 Spoilers and Review follows.
Space The FATAL Frontier?
Perhaps still the “final” frontier too.
Looks like this book is now a trios series not a duo.
That’s a partnership between Deathstroke, Black Canary and Toyman 2.0.!
It’s a space mission from T.R.U.S.T. that puts our “heroes” in conflict with…
…the unusual pairing of Cyborg Superman and The Weird!
Most of you likely know of Cyborg Superman perhaps even back to the Death and Return and Superman epic, but The Weird is way more niche; so here’s his / its classic Who’s Who bio.
He / it anchored a four issue mini-series in 1988/89.
Anyhow, a battle ensues leading to some kind of break in space-time and revelations of either concurrent or future events.
Our “heroes” win and their next mission involves…
…”Wonder” Queen Cheetah of the Legion of Doom?!
The Pulse:
Another fantastic issue on story and art. I’m a long time Deathstroke fan back to his debut way back when. I’ve read every one of his series and probably have read all of his other appearances across the main DC continuity in the intervening years. This Deathstroke Inc. series feels true to Slade Wilson’s journey and has his authentic voice, but also is imbued with fresh energy with a healthy does of the fantastical. We’re seeing Slade in new settings in new situations yet it feels appropriate and right. Writer Josh Williamson is knocking it out of the park and on the art side this is probably Howard Porter’s most electric and dynamic work of his storied career; Hi-Fi’s colors and Steve Wands letters round out the visual feast. Interesting choice to have all the pages two-page spreads here, but that choice makes sense to convey the vastness, scope and the almost “otherness” of space. An awesome issue and we’re only on the second effort. 9.5 out of 10.
