DC Comics and Detective Comics #1044 Spoilers and Review follows.

Batman’s Uneasy and Deadly Alliance!

New Arkham Tower Is Worse Than Arkham Asylum?!

Not only is Gotham City a dark place with more villains and crime than elsewhere in DC, it also has terrible drinking water!

Anyhow, readers are quickly caught up on where we left off; Batman and Mayor Nakano are in Gotham’s sewers, separated between debris, and…

…new villain Nero XIX has taken over the Mayor’s Office and, in his mind, the role too.

Batwoman comes around and seems to defeat Nero XIX’s soldiers and the villain himself?!

In the sewer, Mayor Nakano and Batman come to an uneasy alliance to get out of their predicament…

…complicated by the return of Vile who…

…is ready to consume the Mayor!

Batman thanks fast and uses the water in the sewer by…

…electrifying and frying the Vile parasites, but…

also Mayor Nakano!

While we wonder whether Batman killed the Mayor, the back-up story…

…focuses on the ghastly origins of Arkham Asylum and its sinister allure.

In modern day, Arkham Tower replaces the Asylum, but…

…as the same maddening effects!

The Pulse:

The main story was entertaining set in the world of Fear State, but advancing the series’ storylines before the event. Looks like Vile is more difficult to get rid of them than Batman thought. Plus the back-up is fascinating with the past and present juxtapositions concerning Arkham Tower; it will drive one mad?! 8 out of 10.
