Batman Fear State Tie-In That’s Vile!

Plus Arkham’s Seeping Madness?!

The book opens with Batman trying to resuscitate Gotham City Mayor Nakano who the Dark Knight electrocuted last issue to save him from the Vile parasite’s infection and hold.

Looks like it work and at least the Mayor’s death is not on Batman’s hands, but the Mayor remains a big critic of Batman and vigilantes.

Oracle apprises Batman and readers about how the parasite is spreading across Gotham City…

…necessitating bringing Orphan and Nightwing into the fray.

The parasite also has quite the hive in the sewers where it incubates, but…

…Batman electrocutes and destroys the lot.

The rest of the Batman Family are part of the efforts include Batwoman.

Batman reveals to the Mayor the origins of the parasite and that his one-time assistant Hue Vile was responsible; they also hash out their philosophical agendas including over the Magistrate Program.

Batman takes the Mayor from the sewers and…

…into the literal mouth of the parasite.

However, Nightwing comes to their aid and electrocutes and kills presumably this last parasite.

The book ends with both Batman and Mayor Nakano…

…reaching a secret détente and stealth alliance.

The back-up story feature bridging the terrifying past of Arkham Asylum with…

…it’s Arkham Tower under construction present with Harley Quinn?!

The Pulse:

An action-packed issue that didn’t feel like a Fear State tie-in, but for the better. It appears that Batman was multi-tasking during his latest event as the story takes place during Fear State. The art was solid and the story rich. The back-up story is also intriguing adding layers to the madness lore of Arkham Asylum which is becoming Arkham Tower in modern day. 8.5 out of 10.
