Superman has recovered from the devastating attack against him. After the life-changing events of issue #5, Jon Kent and his new ally Jay Nakamura are ready to strike back. They are on a collision course with the type of power that is used to swatting problems out of the way. But Superman is not so easily swatted!

After going back for his cape, Superman and Jay have a rooftop pizza where Jay explains his Gamorran past and that of Gamorra’s President Henry Bendix.

His mom was taken, he doesn’t know if she’s alive, and we see more of Jay’s fading powers in action.

The boys decides to get some evidence against Bendix…

…with Jay in a new costume doing the infiltrating and…

…bumping into Jon Kent’s best friend Damian Wayne Robin and his mom Lois Lane; it should be noted that Robin is happy that his buddy Superman is happy with Jay.

In terms of the mission for the evidence it looks like they have what they need; the book ends with Superman thwarting a ship of cargo ships with captives heading for Gamorra plus the revelation that Jay’s mom is the former president of the Pacific island nation and alive!

We also see that Bendix’s plan is near fruition; something called the Rising.

The Pulse:

Jon Kent’s bisexual journey continues in a sensitive way, but the real action here is with the human smuggling and rogue nation subplots. A very thoughtful tale, beautifully rendered. The Robin and Lois Lane reveal seemed a bit clumsy though and more about showing Jon being accepted than material to the main action plot of the issue. 7 out of 10.
