Troma’s Surf Nazis Must Die washes onto Blu-ray in February

Disc Announcements, News

During the mid-80s, Troma films became the place for cult weirdness. The indie studio and distributor created its own aesthetic with the release of The Toxic Avenger. They followed it up with more films with the Troma touch. The Troma film was a level of over the top entertainment that major studios dared never touch. If you had to use one word to describe a Troma film, it would be “Gross.” Which is what we wanted. Do you think Miramax or New Line was going to put out a film called Surf Nazis Must Die? Of course not. Only Troma had the guts to put out a movie about a post-apocalyptic California where the waves are now ruled by Nazi loving surfers. The violence goes to far as the Surf Nazis kill the son of “Mama” Washington (Gail Neely). Even in a lawless land, Mama is going to get justice in the name of her son. The movie became a major cult hit when it ran on USA’s Up All Night with Rhonda Shear during the ’90s. Now Troma has restored the film for a Blu-ray release on Feb. 8 so you’ll see more of Mama’s revenge on the fascist surfers. Here’s the press release from Troma Team Release:

The beaches Have Become Battlefields…The Waves Are A War Zone!

“ When an earthquake leaves the California coastline in ruins and reduces the beaches to a state of chaos, group of neo-Nazis led by Adolf (Barry Brenner), the self-proclaimed “Führer of the new beach”, takes advantage of the resulting chaos by fighting off several rival surfer gangs to seize control of the beaches. Meanwhile, an African American oil well worker named Leroy (Robert Harden) is killed by the Surf Nazis while jogging on the beach. Leroy’s mother, “Mama” Washington (Gail Neely), devastated by the loss of her son, vows revenge. After arming herself with a handgun and grenades, she breaks out of her retirement home and exacts vengeance on the Surf Nazis.”
