Patrick Stewart Confirms That Star Trek: Picard Will End After Third Season
We’ve known that there will be at least three seasons of Star Trek: Picard for awhile, but we didn’t know for sure if the series would end there.
In an interview with SFX Magazine, Jean-Luc himself (aka Sir Patrick Stewart) confirmed that the third season will be the final one of the show.
The magazine’s ten-page spread on Picard includes Stewart and executive producer Akiva Goldsman confirming that the third season will be the last and that they’re close to wrapping production on the series. This news comes days after Paramount+ dropped a trailer for season two that showed us Whoopi Goldberg reprising her role of Guinan once again, among many other things.
The fact that season three will be the last Picard isn’t all that surprising given Stewart is into his eighties now. That doesn’t mean, however, that there won’t be any potential spinoffs from the show. We’re already getting an audio drama focused on Seven (Jeri Ryan) and Raffi (Michelle Hurd), and there are plenty of other characters in Picard’s new crew who could show up elsewhere in the Trek universe.
In the meantime, we can go into season two starting on March 3 with the knowledge that this is the middle of a three-part arc for the show. No news yet on when season three will premiere, though given where they are in production, it will most likely be sometime early in 2023.
Not totally unexpected, but curious what spin-offs may occur.
