THR reports.

Warner Bros. Shifts Dates for ‘Black Adam,’ ‘The Flash,’ ‘Aquaman 2’

The shuffle also includes moves for ‘Wonka’ and ‘Shazam! 2.’

Warner Bros. shuffled its release calendar Wednesday, moving multiple high-profile projects.

Among the changes were shifts for the Ezra Miller superhero film The Flash, which now opens June 23, 2023 (back from Nov. 4, 2022), as well as new, later dates for the Jason Momoa starrer Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (March 17, 2023, back from Dec. 16, 2022) and Timothée Chalamet’s Wonka (Dec. 15, 2023, back from March 17, 2023).

Insiders note COVID delayed visual effects on some of the films, thus the shifts.

Warners did move one film up: New Line’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which now opens Dec. 16, 2022, opposite 20th Century’s Avatar 2. It was previously slated for June 2, 2023. Meanwhile, Jason Statham’s Meg 2: The Trench now has a date and will open Aug. 4, 2023.

The announcement comes a few hours after Dwayne Johnson revealed on Instagram that two of his films would move. Warner Bros. and New Line’s Black Adam is moving to Oct. 21 of this year, back from its original date of July 29. Johnson noted in a message to fans that the film will open just before Halloween and play through the holiday season.

In a twinned move, Johnson’s animated DC League of Super-Pets is moving into Black Adam’s old July 29 spot. It was previously slated for May 20.

Johnson reteams with his Jungle Cruise director, Jaume Collet-Serra, for Black Adam, which also stars Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. It marks Johnson’s first time starring in a live-action superhero movie.

DC’s League of Super-Pets voice-stars Johnson as Krypto, Superman’s dog, and features other pets of DC superheroes who are in need of help from their four-legged friends. The voice cast also includes Keanu Reeves, Kevin Hart, John Krasinski, Kate McKinnon and more. Jared Stern and Sam Levine are co-directing the feature from Warner Bros. Animation Group.

Johnson’s Seven Bucks is producing both films.
