Batman is back! And just in time to save the life of Nightwing, who was given a fear toxin super-dose and tossed out of a skyscraper—another tragedy surrounding Arkham Tower’s hostile takeover. As Scarecrow readies his forces for the big bat, war erupts on every floor of the building between the Penguin’s thugs, the Party Crashers, the murderous Arkham inmates, and an overwhelmed Bat-Family who’s struggling to get everyone out alive! Will the return of the bat be enough to turn the tide to victory…or does another X factor lurk in the battle that could save the day?

The penultimate chapter of “House of Gotham” arrives as a battle erupts between Batman, The Joker, and the Boy in horrifying fashion! Bruce Wayne has felt responsibility for this situation for years now…but does he have what it takes to save the life of his sworn enemy?

The book opens with a one-page in-story explanation what’s transpired leading to Batman’s return.

Then we continue to see Team Batman fight to bring sanity literally to Arkham Tower starting with the Tim Drake Robin and Batwoman.

Harley Quinn and Lady Clayface are also in on the fight.

Huntress as well as Mayor Nakano’s wife, a hostage, tries to snap the Psycho-Pirate back to clarity.

The book begins to end with Batman and team confronting the Scarecrow with the Medusa Mask, but…

…the Psycho-Pirate may be a gamechanger concerning this climax and his mask.

The Cassandra Cain Batgirl attacks Scarecrow putting everyone in a mad scramble for the Medusa Mask..

…that Mayor Nakano’s wife picks up and wear to end the skermish?!

The back-up tale sees the Joker, Killer Croc as well as Batman and his older Robins in Nightwing, Red Hood and Tim Drake raise a ruckus.

Next up is Detective Comics #1058 out next week.

It marks the finale to this weekly Tower arc as well as the back-up.

Following that issue the series goes back to a monthly schedule.

The Pulse:

Glad to see Batman is back, but there still was a strong focus on the Batman Family in the issue as has been the case this entire arc. Intriguing moments like the Scarecrow with Psycho-Pirate’s Medusa Mask as well as that cliffhanger. Solid art on the main story. Despite its all-star characters the back-up remains iffy for me. The art was decent though. 7.5 out of 10 on the strength of the main story.
