Wilson Fisk’s hubris as mayor of New York has cast the city in the waiting arms of a cadre of dangerous and deadly super villains! Worse still, Fisk’s vendetta against the heroes who have stood against him for so long has left the city defenseless. You may think you’ve heard a tale like this before, but there will be no last minute bargains struck between Fisk and the heroes, no truce to stop the fighting and no mutual parting of the ways. Just blood, sweat and tears! Trust us, True Believer, you have NO IDEA what’s coming — or the effect it will have on the Marvel Universe!

40 PGS./Rated T+ …$5.99

The book opens with the heroes of Marvel fighting each other in a civil war due to 1/2 of them being mind controlled by the Purple Man for the series’ villain and Mayor of NYC Wilson Fisk aka the Kingpin of Crime!

During the battle, Matt Murdock aka Daredevil learns that the Kingpin believes he killed Matt last issue (full spoilers here), but he knows it was his brother Mike Murdock instead; he leaves the super-hero civil war fight to get to the Kingin only to see Elektra, the other Daredevil, get to him first.

Daredevil uses the Purple Man power in the jewel of Kingpin’s walking stick on him before destroying it.

Elsewhere, Luke Cage is able to calm of Purple Man’s kids, who want to stop their dad, to the point where the kid is able to return all the super-hero to their own control.

The book begins to end with the revelation that Luke Cage plans to run for Mayor of NYC seemingly unopposed as the Kingpin has been arrested, but his son may have a prison transport escape in mind?!

Despite what’s happened, it looks Kingpin has some people that want to help him clear his name so he can run for United States President, but he is violently uninterested.

Wilson Fisk tells his son Butch, who appears to be good hearted, to pick up his legacy, the mantle of the Kingpin and say that he killed his father for it as Wilson Fisk seemingly walks away from NYC.

It also appears that Marvel will still have two Daredevils going forward with Matt Murdock planning to work with Elektra on her Hand project.

And, yes, Wilson Fisk has left NYC and sailing into the sunset somewhere with his wife Typhoid Mary aka Mary Walker for a new chapter in retirement seemingly.

Despite this being Devil’s Reign #6 (of 6) it is not the end of the event as Devil’s Reign: Omega #1 is coming.

The Pulse:

This was an action-packed over-sized issue that did not feel crammed or too much. Characters are left in intriguing new spots throughout the book setting up some interesting plots for the upcoming Devil’s Reign one-shot, the new ongoing Daredevil series and possibly other titles. I also really found the art team’s work amazing and serviced the story so well. 8 out of 10.
