The world of Flashpoint returns! After sacrificing everything to help the Flash put the universe back together and save Bruce Wayne’s life, Thomas Wayne wakes up in a world he thought was no more. Forced to don the cowl once again, Batman prowls the streets of Gotham searching for answers to how this world still exists, but what he starts to uncover will send him hurtling around the globe. The hunt for the Clockwork Killer starts here!

Legendary writer Geoff Johns comes back to the alternate world he created, partnering with prolific artist Eduardo Risso as he returns to the Flashpoint Batman!

The first seven (7) pages of the issue were released early with five (5) pages DC Comics revealed and two (2) further pages that leaked here.

Those pages appear to involve the Bruce Wayne Batman hunting, with the assistance of the Watchmen, for an object that belongs to Rip Hunter of the Time Masters.

The rest of the issue pivots the Flashpoint timeline where the Thomas Wayne Batman, assuming its the same one who has bene running around DC for the last few years, realizes he’s back in a timeline and on a world that should no longer exist based on the  2011 Flashpoint event ended.

Thomas Wayne leaves his meeting to get his bearings as he and readers get up-to-date with the goings-on of the Flashpoint world through…

…media coverage.

The Thomas Wayne Batman is in his Batcave pondering what’s happened when someone (perhaps fast) writes on his chalk board DC Comics editorial mantra of the Infinite Frontier era that Everything Matters.

That spurs Batman to find the previous Flashpoint architect Barry Allen the one-time Flash who we learn is dealing with forensic evidence concerning a Clockwork Killer.

Thomas Wayne confront Barry Allen who doesn’t remember anything of the past and this may not be “the” real Barry Allen who readers may is stuck on a different world as seen in the Infinite Frontier mini-series.

Batman drugs Barry Allen and straps him to an electric share to turn him into the Flash with a potpourri of chemicals, but…

….it’s sabotaged causing Barry Allen to die!

Thomas Wayne finds the saboteur and despite trying to a Batman like his son Bruce Wayne is on Earth 0 he can’t control his murderous urges as readers later see that Zoom may be behind all this and not a Flash?!

First epilogue involves the Psycho-Pirate who seems to everywhere nowadays in DC Comics.

The second epilogue involves the Thomas Wayne Batman trying to piece the Divine Continuity mystery together…

…whose resolution may well involve the Time Masters.

Flashpoint Beyond #1 (of 6) lands in stores on May 3, 2022.

The Pulse:

A really dense over-sized issue on story and dialogue. Much of that may have been needed to get new and older readers caught up on what Flashpoint was before diving head first into the intrigue of Flashpoint Beyond. The art is sufficiently dark to set the tone for this series as its not as slick as the art from the original a decade ago. An intriguing start. 7.5 out of 10.
