THE PUNISHER STORY TO END ALL PUNISHER STORIES CONTINUES!

The Hand has lost its way. What was once the world’s most fearsome organization of ninjas and killers has found itself defeated time and again by lesser foes. One priestess believes it’s because the Hand hasn’t had the proper leadership, the living embodiment of their dark god, the Beast. Enter the Punisher, the most accomplished murderer who has ever lived. A man determined to end his war, no matter what it takes.

Frank Castle is happy to see his dead wife is back in the land of the loving, but…

…readers are left perplexed about his children, Lisa Castle and Frank Castle Jr., seemingly still being dead… maybe?!

Frank Castle does wonder how it is possible that his wife Maria Elizabeth Castle is alive even when passing an armory full of guns he no longer uses.

We then get a bit of a history lesson from the high priestess of the Hand.

Later, the Punisher grants an audience to the Apostles of War, but doesn’t appreciate their offering to him of a gamma powered firearm.

That leads to a confrontation…

…that sees the Punisher the victor.

After the apostle is murdered, the Punisher picks from one of three blades offered by the priestess, before…

…he gets an audience before the death god, or somesuch, of the Hand.

The book ends with the revelation that Ares is back and he is the leader of the god that the Apostles of War serve.

Well, one-time Avengers stalwart Ares aka the god of war is back.

He is the god of war after all whose classic Marvel Handbook who’s who type bio is above and below.

The Pulse:

I’m not into murdery series, but then you may remind me that I have been a long-time Deathstroke fan at DC. I am intrigued by the Punisher’s new status quo, but moreso by the cliffhanger that puts him on a trajectory to face a god. That seems like a mismatch. A compelling one. Solid art in the issue too. 8.5 out of 10.
