Moon Knight Season 1, Episode 6, Finale Spoilers Have Viewers Asking Who Are Jake Lockley and The Scarlet Scarab?

‘Moon Knight:’ Meet Marc Spector’s Third Alter — Jake Lockley

Just how broken is Marc Spector? According to Khonshu, so broken that he doesn’t even realize he’s got a third alter lurking around the corner — and he’s the most dangerous one. At long last, say hello to Jake Lockley.
While Episode 6 “Gods and Monsters” of Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight ends on an ambitious note (Is Marc still in charge? Is Steven? Are they finally in a truly symbiotic relationship?), there’s still one more surprise. In the end credit tag for the episode, it’s revealed that Khonshu was never actually worried about losing Marc entirely as an avatar, because he’s got Jake. And clearly, Jake will do all the tough, dirty things that Marc (and/or Steven) never will.
This might be the first time we’re seeing Jake, but this isn’t the first time he’s been hinted at. All those times Marc and Steven blacked out and neither one of them was in control? That third sarcophagus? All Jake.
“We knew right from the beginning that fans were going to be on the lookout for references and clues that Jake Lockley is going to appear in the show,” head writer Jeremy Slater tells Marvel.com. The creative team realized that Marvel super fans — and ones familiar with the comics — would be searching for anything pointing to him, and made the decision to not worry about surprising fans who would be dissecting every single scene. Rather, the team focused on “everyone else who’s totally unfamiliar with the character and the dynamic,” recognizing “we have to make sure that the mystery works as satisfying for the newcomers to the Moon Knight story.”
Calling it a full team effort for the entire crew, Slater continues, “It was really just a balancing act that definitely involved my team of writers, but also involved the directors, the executives, and ultimately, all the way up to Kevin Feige, in terms of how many breadcrumbs are we dropping? Is this a satisfying reveal? Are we telegraphing it too much? Or are we not telegraphing enough?”
…Diab “loves that he’s a Latino” character, and even as Jake walks through the hospital pushing Harrow’s wheelchair, he’s humming a Guatemalan hymn. And even though viewers only spend a few minutes with Jake, it’s clear that “this isn’t Marc. So just imagine what’s to come.” Diab continues. “I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen with the third completely different character with a completely different background.”
“The moment that Oscar comes out as Jake — he’s scary,” consulting producer Sarah Goher adds. “But he’s such a stylish Jake. It’s like if [you met him, you’d] be like, ‘wow, so you’re Jake Lockley,’ in a way that you’re kind of enamored and scared at the same time. Oscar just knows how to extract the most amazing things, and helps create a character that’s so real and so palpable. Wherever he takes Jake, we’re all going to follow.”
Now that Jake is out in the world, everyone’s excited to see just how viewers take to this third identity. And, for those looking for more Jake, a repeat viewing of the season might be in order, too. As Slater mentions, “The second time you watch it, everything neatly slots into place. Hopefully, you realize some of these mysteries were right in front of your eyes the whole time. That was always the goal and the ambition.”
In the mid-credits scene, Jake Lockley seemingly kills Harrow, with Ammit within him, at Khonshu’s beckoning.

‘Moon Knight’: May Calamawy and Sara Goher on the Magic of Bringing Egyptian Super Hero Scarlet Scarab On-Screen
The ‘Moon Knight’ star and consulting producer reveal what it means to them to feel represented by Layla El-Faouly.
Another hero rises at the end of Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight.
Though she doesn’t necessarily want — or even need — any sort of super powers, and she is fully against becoming a full-time avatar, Layla El-Faouly makes an agreement with Taweret. In order to stop Ammit once and for all, they need another avatar to help bind the vengeful deity. With no other option, and with firm rules in place, Layla calls on Taweret for assistance. Next thing you know, Layla emerges from the rubble, physically (and a little metaphorically, too) as a new hero: Scarlet Scarab.
Layla’s journey though Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight, alongside Marc Spector and Steven Grant, comes to a crescendo with the finale episode. Layla was never looking to become a Super Hero, considering she can hold herself in a fight without any sort of powers and has never yearned for the same abilities as her husband. But even that aside, it feels right for the character to fully emerge as powerful figure, too, right alongside Moon Knight and Mr. Knight.
A female foil for Marc/Steven was always in grand plans for Moon Knight from the very beginning. When Director and Executive Producer Mohamed Diab and consulting producer Sara Goher were putting together a pitch for the series, they actually had May Calamawy in mind right from the get-go.
The rumors you may have heard about Calamawy first hearing about auditioning for Moon Knight on Instagram are true, as Goher explains, it was literally a situation of wanting someone like her for the role, so why not ask?
“When we were putting [together our pitch], she was in the presentation,” Goher says. “We knew in our hearts that we wanted someone like her to take on this role. And then once we got her on board, she just gave like 1,000%, and I’m so happy with Layla.”
Knowing what a male-dominated cast Moon Knight was, behind-the-scenes, Goher was a huge champion for Layla, helping the creative team navigate her character, in hopes of making her fully rounded. For Goher, it was a chance for both her and Calamawy’s voice to be heard, calling the final character a “childhood dream down to the last curl on her head.”
“I’m an Egyptian girl, and I have curly hair,” Goher continues. “I can’t tell you how many girls I know have spent years burning that hair with irons, using chemical processes to straighten their hair, and it’s because we don’t see enough representation of curly hair on-screen. And so down to the curl, down to her story, down to even her strength, these were all very important things that we wanted to instate in her character.”
From the very first moment viewers meet Layla, it’s clear that she’s simply not just along for the ride with Marc and Steven, but an active participant in everything. When Marc fights, she fights (and when Steven runs, she runs)…

Anyhow, after the finale, fans are wondering what Jake Lockley’s Moon Knight suit would look like with the consensus being it have more black in it than the two costumes we saw in season one.
No word on Moon Knight Season 2 yet.
