As the Warworld Saga reaches a breaking point, battle lines are drawn between the two towering forces at odds: Mongul and Superman. In this special 2022 annual we’ll explore how our combatants have evolved over the years to represent the beacons of hope and tyranny that they respectively embody…and witness the first chilling chapter of their ultimate final battle!

The issue contrasts the upbringing of Clark Kent and Mongul Jr.

On the Superman side, we learn that Martha Kent had and beat cancer.

On the Mongul Jr. side we learn that his mother beat him.

We also learn that Mongul Sr. sired many children with many women.

Mongul Jr.’s nature was to be kind, but that did not help him with battles.

His mom and he were exiled as a result.

He tried to take care of his mother, but…

…she showed him that compassion was a weakness.

She would be killed by a beast that Mongul Jr. in turn would kill.

Mongul Jr. pledges to kill his father for his mother.

Later in life, an older Monjul Jr. is ready to reenter society from exile.

He will accept nothing less.

Naturally, he gets his way.

The Pulse:

A nice breather issue from the Warworld Saga in the core Action Comics series. An interesting contrast of origins between Superman and Mongul. Solid art teams depicting each parallel origin. Entertaining. 7 out of 10.
