The DC event of 2022 continues! As Thomas Wayne investigates the continuing mystery of the Clockwork Killer, another mystery erupts when a strange inmate within Arkham claims that Bruce Wayne is the only Batman that should exist. And Thomas’s world is again turned upside down when a new, twisted version of an iconic Batman villain is born.

The book opens with the Flashpoint Batman, Thomas Wayne father of a dead Bruce Wayne, trying to solve the Time-Traveler Murders of the yet-to-be-dubbed-in-story Clockwork Killer.

He realizes he’s alone to do this because there are no Legion of Super-Heroes or Time Masters or timeline super-heroes who have come to tell him of this Hypertime aberration and return to the once-thought-to-be-destroyed Flashpoint timeline.

He gets a clue in the form of Psycho-Pirate, Thomas Hayden, who was captured and rambling about using Hypertime to escape a Dark Crisis.

So, Batman visits him while incarcerated only to find that…

…he’s killed himself?!

While the Great Darkness’ servant in Dark Crisis is now seemingly dead, his wall scrawling’s reveal that he may not have been the “real” Psycho-Pirate and other ramblings.

It should be noted that Dark Crisis #1 (of 7) also is in stores this week and is pretty impactful (full spoilers here).

While Batman appears confused by all this he is able to confirm with fellow inmate Gilda Dent that no one sounded like they were in the cell when he killed himself; this happens before Gilda, who knows the Flashpoint Batman is Thomas Wayne, is violently turned into the Flashpoint Two-Face quite literally with Batman having a gruesome hand in it.

As Batman leaves the asylum he fouls a mugging and seemingly has no qualms about using a gun to kill the assailant.

However, the Flashpoint Superman does have qualms about that.

The book ends again in the past, presumably, with…

…the Bruce Wayne Batman and a member of the Time Masters seemingly leading up to the Flashpoint timeline’s reintroduction.

The Pulse:

Another compelling issue with intrigue, action and drama all rendered exceptionally. The mysteries are captivating. 8 out of 10.
