Iconic WWE and TNA / Impact Wrestling Referee and Agent Dave Hebner, Twin Brother Of Earl Hebner, Passes Away At 73! RIP.

WZ reports.

Legendary Referee Dave Hebner Passes Away

Legendary referee and long-time WWE road agent Dave Hebner, the brother of former WWE referee Earl Hebner, has passed away.

The twitter account for Brian Hebner’s podcast, Refin It Up with Brian Hebner, shared the news in a tweet on June 17.

Dave and Earl had lengthy careers as referees, dating back to the 1970s, when they worked for promotions affiliated with the NWA. Dave went on to officiate for the WWF, and alongside Earl, he was involved in a memorable angle during the Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant match on WWE Main Event in 1988. The brothers pulled some “twin magic”, as Earl counted the pin while Dave, the intended referee, had secretly been replaced in favor of his brother, who has paid by DiBiase.

Dave also refereed the classic clash between Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and Randy Savage at WrestleMania III. He eventually transitioned into a backstage role as a road agent, and he kept working for the company through 2005. Dave also made appearances for TNA (IMPACT Wrestling).

David Hebner passes away

WWE is saddened to learn that long-time referee David Hebner has passed away.

Throughout a storied career, Hebner found himself at the center of some of WWE’s most iconic moments. Hebner officiated the classic showdown between Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania III, and the clash between Savage and Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania V.

Hebner and his brother Earl helped author one of the most memorable moments in WWE history when Andre The Giant and Hogan met on WWE Main Event for the WWE Title in 1988. With Dave locked in a closet, Earl and “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase laid a trap for The Hulkster. As Dave joined Earl in the ring, he had the befuddled Hogan seeing double in disbelief.

Following the conclusion of his impressive officiating career, Hebner would work for WWE in a backstage capacity until 2005.

WWE extends its condolences to Hebner’s family, friends and fans.

It is believed that Dave Hebner passed away due to complications related to Parkinson’s.

His nephew, son of his twin brother Earl, Brian Hebner has been a WWE and Impact Wrestling referee for over 20 years and is retiring after Slammiversary 2022 to focus on being a single dad.

On behalf of the IP team, I offer our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Dave Hebner.
