Dario Argento’s Tenebrae slashes onto 4K UHD in July

Disc Announcements, News

This is the summer of Dario Argento. The legendary Italian director has a new film coming to theaters. Argento is being praised for his acting performance in Gaspar Noé’s Vortex. His vast filmography is being re-issued in 4K UHD so longtime fans enjoy a high resolution of his revolutionary work. Synapse Films is releasing a 4K UHD version of Tenebrae. A writer arrives in Italy to promote his new novel only to discover someone is using his work as part of elaborate murders. The movie is a giallo masterpiece with a killer slashing away. The title refers to a special Catholic Mass where at the end of the service all the lights in the church are off so the congregation is in pitch black. There is quite a bit of darkness on the screen. Here’s the press release from MVD Entertainment Group with all the details of the 4K UHD:

Italian horror master Dario Argento elevates the giallo genre to new heights with 1982’s TENEBRAE, a darkly humorous and notoriously grisly murder-mystery that many consider to be one of his finest works.
Now, Synapse Films, in conjunction with Arrow Video, makes this gory suspense classic available for the first time on UHD in a new 4K restoration for TENEBRAE‘s 40th anniversary!

American mystery author Peter Neal (Anthony Franciosa, Death Wish II) comes to Rome to promote his newest novel, Tenebrae. A razor-wielding psychopath is on the loose, taunting Neal and murdering those around him in gruesome fashion just like the character in his novel. As the mystery surrounding the killings spirals out of control, Neal investigates the crimes on his own, leading to a mind-bending, genre-twisting conclusion that will leave you breathless!

Co-starring John Saxon (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Daria Nicolodi (Phenomena), John Steiner (Caligula) and featuring beautiful cinematography by Luciano Tovoli (Suspiria), this stunning all-new 4K restoration includes hours of extras and, for the first time ever, the alternate U.S. theatrical cut, Unsane.
Synapse Films presents Dario Argento’s Tenebrae in a strictly limited, three-disc (2 UHD/1 BD) 6000-piece Limited Edition boxed set. One pressing only.
