The end of the first arc of this historic new volume is here, and you won’t believe what we’re putting the Web-Slinger through!

Spider-Man and Tombstone have their most brutal battle ever, but I fear the worst damage to Peter isn’t going to be physical.

Also, did you notice that this was ASM LGY #899?! That means next issue is…

32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

The Rose’s arrest is a big spectacle leading to the irradiated Digger fleeing without his ice cream.

Spider-Man surveys the damage he wrought and blames Tombstone for manipulating him and putting him the middle of NYC’s gang war.

Despite saying that he’s turned over a new leaf, Tombstone is still an underworld kingpin, but not THE Kingpin.

His allies are dubious over the optics of Spider-Man and he being in a cahoots and if it proves true it won’t end well for Tombstone.

Black Cat finally finds Spider-Man, tells him he knows he’s hurting over MJ leaving up as well as the physical pain of his recent ordeal; she lets him know she’ll be there for him.

Spider-Man finds Digger and tells him everything bout how Tombstone duped him and them.

While Spider-Man confronts Tombstone…

…Digger goes after his gains from his peers who Spider-Man took for him.

Tombstone accepts what’s happened, but kicks Spider-Man out who then goes out to have dinner as Peter Parker with his Aunt May.

Be there when Wells and McGuinness pull out all the stops for AMAZING SPIDER-MAN’s 900th issue this June!

While series writer Zeb Well wrote this milestone issue…

…there is no sign of series artist John Romita Jr., but…

…we get fan fave Ed McGuinness instead for…

…the whole over-sized main story.

Looks like Doctor Octopus’ tentacles are after Spider-Man and used J. Jonah Jameson at first to get his attention.

They then switch hosts to send Spidey a message.

He willingly follows the tentacles.

Looks like the being that the book opened with has captured Doctor Octopus.

He’s also sent the Super-Adaptoid, um the “Sinister Adaptoid”, after Spidey…

…with the powers of the Sinister Six.

The being has captured more than Doc Ock, but many of Spider-Man’s close confidantes.

He’s also captured Spider-Man via the Super-Adaptoid.

We then get a secret origin…

…for the being who…

…isn’t necessarily an alien, but…

…tech enhanced and big brained…

…quite literally.

The being is eager to learn who Spider-Man is and…

…seems quite afraid of him when he comes to!

The Super-Adaptoid is again sent after Spider-Man, but he gets help from Doctor Octopus’ tentacles as…

…we learn the being has captured all of the Sinister Six!

Spider-Man frees them and they team-up take out the Super-Adaptoid.

They defeat it by turning it against itself as…

…they find the literal big brain.

The Sinister Six want to destroy it, but since its living…

…that puts the Sinister Six against Spider-Man.

Doctor Octopus’ tentacles don’t want to hurt Spider-Man…

…as the being has found the answer to his question about who Spider-Man is.

And in the end, this being knew Spider-Man was Peter Parker which was never the point; it was trying to determine what kind of person Spider-Man is.

The being wishes Peter a happy birthday tying the end to the beginning of the story.

The main story ends with Peter Parker not in MJ’s arms, but Felicia Hardy’s as Doc Ock’s tentacles look on approvingly.

The first back-up tale involves Jimmy Kimmel and Mysterio.

The second and last back-up tale is this spread.

While this read as a standalone celebratory issue, I do hope it somehow ties into the intriguing main storylines that have been set up and progressed over this Amazing Spider-Man volume 5 series over the previous five issues.
