The Sonny Chiba Collection kicks apart November

This November is proving to be a Marital Arts celebration with Shout! Factory’s announcement of The Sonny Chiba Collection. The Blu-ray boxset will include seven titles starring one of the great cinema tough guys. Sonny Chiba dominated the screen with The Street Fighter (currently out as a Blu-ray boxset from Shout! Factory). You might also remember Sonny Chiba from appearing in both parts of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill. Now you’ll get to feast on his Japanese action films right before Thanksgiving. The Sonny Chiba Collection includes Bodyguard Kiba, Bodyguard Kiba 2, Yakuza Wolf 1: Perform Murder, Yakuza Wolf 2: Extend My Condolences, Shogun’s Shadow, Samurai Reincarnation and Swords of Vengeance. You might want to warn the neighbors that you’ll be cranking the home audio system to hear all the bones Sonny Chiba breaks on the screen. The boxset is slated to be released on November 15. Based on the anime by Ikki Kajiwara, Bodyguard Kiba follows a martial arts fighter (Sonny Chiba) who takes on the yakuza. This film was released in the US theatrically as The Bodyguard with the slogan “Viva Chiba!”

This terrific sequel opens with our hero in prison. Upon his release, he takes a bodyguard position at a nightclub … and his new employer ends up being the one who had him imprisoned!
