DARK CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #5

CRIMSON SKIES FALL ACROSS PLANET EARTH! After the shocking events of the last issue, Pariah has won. And now his Dark Army is poised for the invasion of our world. It’s up to the Titans to rally the remaining heroes to defeat Deathstroke’s ever-growing forces and avert total destruction! An epic war starts on the steps of the Hall of Justice, and only a miracle could help the heroes now. But all hope is not lost, as the worlds without a Justice League have begun to loosen their grip…but can they return to Earth if it means one member of the Justice League could be lost forever?

The book opens with the Multiversity being corrupted by the Great Darkness as Black Adam is muzzled by the Legion of Doom, but he’s saved by whom he would characterize as D-list super-heroes.

Elsewhere, Pariah basks in the recreation of a brand-new infinite multiverse.

On one of Pariah’s “fake” Earths, this one Earth-Batman, the real Barry Allen Flash and real Hal Jordan Green Lantern snap the Bruce Wayne Batman back into reality.

We then see the Multiversity continue to poisoned by the Great Darkness.

However, we learn its Pariah that is corrupting the Great Darkness NOT the other way around?!

Deathstroke and his Pariah’d Great Darkness corrupted Secret Society of Super-Villains aka Deathstroke Inc. attack the Hall of Justice evoking a response from the Titans in the Justice League’s absence!

We then see the real Diana Prince Wonder Woman, liberated from Earth-Wonder Woman, with the real Batman, Flash and Green Lantern head to Earth-Superman to free the Man of Steel, but (1) he seems to self aware of this imaginary world created by Pariah and (2) he can bend the powers used to create the world to unmake and free him and his teammates.

The Multiversity appears to be fully engulfed by the Great Darkness, but all hope is not lost.

The Justice League is back as all have been freed from their fake Earths created by Pariah.

While see some reunions, the tide doesn’t seem to turn in our super-heroes favor.

Pariah has summoned his Great Darkness corrupted Big Bads to face off with the Justice League and the super-heroes appear woefully outnumbered.

SWAMP THING ENTERS THE BATTLE OF THE GREEN DEATH! During the original Crisis on Infinite Earths, Swamp Thing encountered and formed a truce with the Great Darkness, but this ancient force has been awakened by Pariah and now its influence is felt across the Multiverse. Now the Avatar of the Green must work together with new allies to investigate how far it’s spread and why it would work with Pariah. If they want to stop the Great Darkness from swallowing the Green, they need some extra help…ENTER: SUPER SWAMP THING.

The book with siblings Jade and Obsidian heading to the Justice League’s Hall of Justice.

Well, it’s mystical basement which is HQ for the Justice League Dark.

A super-séance is set to begin to try give the super-heroes against Pariah and his Great Darkness corrupted forces.

The Justice Society of America’s Alan Scott Green Lantern is the key as his ring is more mystical than cosmic in nature; son Obsidian’s darkness powers connecting with the ring transports some of the team into the Green.

We also see the Great Darkness I presume temp John Constantine.

The super-heroes are also corrupted by the Great Darkness and turn on each other!

Back at the Hall of Justice we see Alan Scott struggling.

The tempter of John Constantine takes on another form.

The Upside-Down Man is now Trigon the father of Raven.

Alan Scott still struggle due to the team’s Great Darkness fueled turmoil.

Green Lantern’s children, Obsidian and Jade, convince him to just let the team go.

He does so, collapses, but the team is not dead.

In fact, the Son of Superman has become a Swamp Thing?!

This one-body World’s Finest team-up results in this Super Swamp Thing finding Pariah’s device.

John Constantine’s tempter changed forms again and send the Hellblazer away.

He is joined by the team who have escaped the Green with Pariah’s device.

Presumably this is the device that has allowed Pariah to harness the power of the Great Darkness.

Dark Crisis: Young Justice #4

Young Justice against the world! The fake reality that Superboy, Impulse, and Robin are on has completely turned against them, sending the combined might of the JLA and the Titans they grew up with against them. It will take all of their combined might to fight through this onslaught and find out who is responsible for their imprisonment. Wonder Girl, Arrowette, and Red Tornado head to San Francisco’s Titan’s Island in search of assistance but all they find are bad memories.

While its been nice to see a classic looking Young Justice back in action, the “Dark Crisis’ness” of this mini-series eludes me.

The team seems to be on a parallel Earth (which would be a loose connection to the Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths event) or a parallel dimension (perhaps a distinction with out a difference).

Wherever they are, they appear to stuck in the 1990’s era DC and are fighting super-heroes attired in at least 25 year old costumes.

In the real world, Wonder Girl has convinced Arrowette and Red Tornado that there is something wrong as the OG 3 of YJ are missing.

Wonder Woman’s invisible jet, that they commandeered (stole?) is being attacked by alien slugs.

Red Tornado assists Arrowette in getting rid of them only to be met by a unseen threat to readers.

Superboy was right earlier in that there was something off on this world.

Mr. Mxyzptlk’s son Mickey Mxyzptlk is YJ’s biggest fan!

That’s why they can’t leave wherever they are?!

The Flash #786 Spoilers follow.

The Flash #786

Written by: Jeremy Adams
Art by: Amancay Nahuelpan, Fernando Pasarin

Even by Wally West’s standards, the Flash has been on the run recently-and that’s before he had to help step up in the wake of the loss of the Justice League. And while everything is happening everywhere, he and Linda need to talk…

This Dark Crisis tie-in issue actually feels like one to start off anyway.

Several different super-hero teams are planning to take on Deathstroke and his Great Darkness corrupted forces.

In the midst of that planning, Wally West and the missing speedsters have returned.

Wally tells them they found Barry Allen, who doesn’t appear in this issue, the super-heroes are relieved.

The reunited Flash Family is joined by Linda Park as a speedster in her own right!

They actually have a super-hero family team-up with Animal Man and his daughter Animal Girl.

The Flash Family arrives to where the Justice Society of America are, but they have been capture Klarion the Witch Boy.

Interestingly, as a long-time super-hero, even back to his teen days, Wally West has a trick up his sleeve and easily defeats and traps the teen Warlock.

The book seemingly ends with the Flash Family and Justice Society of America racing into the pages of the main Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths event series.

Then we get an anti-climatic tease of the next issue which has nothing to do with Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, but with professional wrestling (or sports entertainment whatever you prefer to call it).

Above is the most recent checklist for the Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths event series, but is missing one December 2022 title below.

After the monumental events of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #4, Pariah has successfully resurrected the infinite Multiverse…and all of reality is still reeling from the event. Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1 is a haunting journey through these newly re-formed realities, from The Jurassic League to DC: Mech…from Dark Knights of Steel to Batman’89 and back again…in a guest-star-galore all-new epic by comics legend and DC architect Mark Waid.

This all seems to bleed into DC’s next event, that takes place weekly between January 2023 and February 2023, also written by Mark Waid called Lazarus Planet.

Mark Waid’s ongoing Batman / Superman: World’s Finest series and limited series Batman vs. Robin may also foretell what’s next.
