Tané McClure was born Hollywood royalty. Her father was Troy McClure, who played Trampas for a decade on The Virginian before starring in the matinee classics At the Earth’s Core, The Land That Time Forgot and The People That Time Forgot. Even though her father got her a small role on The Virginian, his daughter’s artistic pursuit was singing. She married Jonathan Cain around the time that he went from The Babys to Journey. McClure was able to get a major label deal and released an album in 1982. She even had songs on The Terminator soundtrack. But her major music career came to an end around the time she divorced Cain. She embraced acting and starred in two classics of the ’80s: Death Spa and Crawlspace. Her acting career went into overdrive in the ’90s when the erotic thriller genre became hot. Odds are that if you were sobering up on a weekend night and watching, you might have gotten into an argument with a roommate if it was Shannon Tweed or Tané McClure on the screen since they were statuesque blondes who played characters that enjoy showering. Tané McClure had an extremely busy 1997 with 8 movies hitting the VHS shelves at video stores and an episode of Baywatch Nights. To celebrate this busy year, Skin Max is giving us a double feature of Tané McClure with Sexual Impulse and Sexual Roulette. These are two films about how Tané knows how to run a nightlife operation.

Sexual Impulse (1997 – 95 minutes) is about the fate of the Bull Moose Club. The private gentleman’s bar has been a bit of an eyesore in the community with topless waitresses pouring out male chauvinistic attitude. The club is run by Joe Flanagan (Bikini Summer II‘s Archie Gibson) who is an English adventurer sort of guy. He fends off a pair of robbers only to discover his flesh wound was a fatal shot. Joe goes out in style as he hires a topless lapdancer for his funeral. He’s making sure this is a celebration of his life and he’s not the only stiff in the room. The one thing that does get stiffed is the Bull Moose Club. Turns out the place had a massive loan taken out and a balloon payment is due soon. Kali (McClure) arrives as a mysterious woman with a plan to save the club. She wants to have a giant party with a lot more personal services rendered by the waitresses to get the eager guys to cover the loan payment. Will her plan backfire when a nosy prude sneaks into the party? The film looks like it was shot in an abandoned TGIFridays which adds to the charm. The low budget production must have saved a fortune by only having to rent the bottom half of the waitress uniforms. McClure gets to show off all her talents in the film. When the nightclub is packed, she grabs the microphone and sings with the band. She has a charming and seductive voice. The movie does turn into an erotic thriller when mobsters arrive on the scene looking for their cut.

Sexual Roulette (1997 – 79 minutes) takes us back to Las Vegas of the ’90s before they put a roof on Freemont Street and casinos had parking lots of the Strip. This is Indecent Proposal on a shoestring. Jed Willis (Illicit Dreams 2‘s Tim Abell) and his wife Sally (Erotic Confessions‘ Gabriella Hall) take a trip to Las Vegas and share a shower in the hotel room. He’s on a hot streak as they head back to their life in Los Angeles. Things are looking good until Marty (Sidehackers‘ Ross Hagen) drops by to let him know his studio is shutting down. The money he was getting is gone. They’re broke again. They “celebrate” by going to a nearby gentleman’s club. Their bartender pal has the inside scoop on a sure thing horse race. They couple place an outrageous bet with him since they see this as their longshot way to being rich. They head to the Riveria hotel in Vegas to watch the race on TV and collect their winnings. The couple meets Cherry (Tané McClure) and says goodbye to their money when the sure thing turns into a short thing. Things get tense quick since the bartender needs their money to cover the wager. Turns out he borrowed the money from a mobster guy. The duo hit the tables with the rent money in hopes of winning their loses before noon. They also have to hit a pawn store which isn’t the one on Pawn Stars. The couple hits the roulette table and bets colors instead of numbers. They start getting lucky when Cherry drops by with an outrageous bet and proposition. Even though the couple haven’t won back all their money, they walk away from the table to get freaky in Cherry’s spare hotel suite upstairs. Cherry shows up a little late to get an eyeful. The couple wake up late to pay their bartender on time. This turns the movie into an erotic thriller since the bartender discovers the mobster who fronted him the sure thing betting money isn’t going to wait for the missing cash. Cherry might be the couples only hope to live. Are they willing to accept her reverse indecent proposal? Robert Redford offered a million bucks for Demi Moore so it only makes sense that there’s only $40,000 on the bedroom nightstand in this film.

Tané McClure was perfect for the Erotic Thriller genre. Her acting skills brings a bit of depth to the rather shallow characters. Her ability to break into song makes Sexual Impulse more than just an outrageous bar flick. She rightfully deserves to be seen as one of the major stars of the genre. Sexual Impulse and Sexual Roulette are two choice titles from her reign as Erotic Thriller royalty. Her career didn’t end in the ’90s as McClure went on to pay Elle Woods mom in the Legally Blonde movies.

The video is 1.33:1 full frame. This is the way you would have watched the film on late night cable at the end of the ’90s. The audio is Dolby Digital 2.0. The mix is fine for hearing McClure sing at the club. There are no subtitles for either film.

Trailer Gallery includes Bare Exposure, Sexual Roulette, Indecent Behavior 4, Sexual Impulse and Test Tube Teens From The Year 2000.
