Gargoyles #2 Spoilers and Review:
Like the debut book (full spoilers here), this issue opens with the premise from the Gargoyles TV animated series (3 seasons, 78 episodes, airing from 1994 to 1997) that had many characters voiced by actors from the Star Trek: Next Generation live-action TV series (7 seasons, 178 episodes, airing from 1987 to 1994. 4 films, 1994 to 2002.)
The Gargoyles wake-up from the faytime slumber and head to the Rookery to check on their latest, and only, Gargoyle egg set to hatch in a year’s time.
During their slumber, they were invited to witness the birth of Maggie the Cat’s new child.
However, when they arrive everyone appears unconsious.
We have a Dracon family interlude.
Where we see a multigenerational subplot play out.
Later we see that drama extend to an incarcerated family member.
Maggie’s child is desired by even villainous eyes as he/she/it is, currently, the unborn mutate child from Thailog (the clone of Gargoyles leader Goliath) and Doctor Anton Sevarius (mad scientist).
The heroes don’t where Maggie is, but readers do.
She’s in Dr. Sevarius and Thailog’s clutches set to give birth.
The main story ends with Maggie the Cat’s ferious husband Talon attacking long-time Gargoyles antagonist David Xanatos.
The book ends with some concept art and words from the issue’s creators.
Both writer and artist share tidbits on the project.
The Pulse:
A fun issue and fairly accessible for those new to the Gargoyles mythology ad franchise. I remain intrigued the main plot, including the baby drama, as well all of the classic characters, heroes and villains, returns. Fun art style that suits the characters and story. An entertaining issue 8 out of 10.
