DARKWING DUCK #1
(W) Amanda Deibert (A) Carlo Lauro (CA) David NakayamaHe is the terror that flaps in the night…He is the ferocious fowl who plucks the evil eye from the face of foul play…He is Darkwing Duck! Alongside his trusty sidekick Lauchpad McQuack, Darkwing hyper-vigilantly defends St. Canard from the dastardly, devilish demons who would wage wanton war! By night, our caped defender lurks in the shadows, striking fear (and maybe confusion?) in the heart of the criminal underworld…but by day, no one suspects that Darkwing is also mild-mannered Drake Mallard, a well-meaning father to his adorable adopted daughter, Gosalyn! Can Darkwing successfully navigate his two separate lives, all while looking incredibly cool and impossibly handsome? (Hint: Probably not, but…) You’ll have to read to find out!

Darkwing Duck #1 Spoilers and Review.
The timeframe as to when this storu takes place is unclear, but for readers it takes place after the Darkwing Duck TV animated series went off the air (3 seasons, 91 episodes, airing from 1991 to 1992).
The comic book series, like the animated series, features Drake Mallard as the clumsy titular hero who is supported knowingly by Launchpad McQuack and sometimes unknowingly by Gosalyn Mallard, Mallard’s adopted 9 year old daughter.
Looks like the city of St. Canard is under threat by Megavolt again!
Using mobile devices, Megavolt seems to brainwash the citizenry.
Megavolt turns these weapons against Darkwinf Duck who is aided by Launchpad McQuack in an aerial escape of sorts.
His daughter Gosalyn Mallard and friend are ready to help Darkwing Duck foil the rogue.
They distract or attract Megavolt to them!
Launchpad McQuack helps Darkwing Duck confront Megavolt after he bound the kids.
In the midst of the battle between hero and villain, the hero uses his body, quite literally, to thwart the villain’s caper.
The city is saved and Darkwing Duck is a bit crispy after the adventure.
Next Up.
Up next for this ongoing series is Darkwing Duck #2.
Darkwing Duck #2
(W) Amanda Deibert (A) Carlo Lauro (CA) David Nakayama
QUACKERJACK! Nefarious ne’er-do-well, and bane of Darkwing Duck’s existence! With his cadre of silly-yet-dangerous (but mostly silly) toy weapons, Q-Jack (as the kids call him) aims to reign terror upon the citizens of St. Canard! Normally, D-Wing (as no one calls him) is great at focusing on fending off the criminal element…but at the moment, he’s particularly overprotective of his daughter Gosalyn. SO overprotective, in fact, that he’s considering…RETIRING FROM BEING A SUPERHERO!?!?!?!In Shops: Feb 22, 2023

The Pulse.
I found this debut issue fun. It evoked the tone of the animated series quite well. As such, it would seem to be better tailored to younger readers or older readers looking for a genuine nostalgia hit. I’ll introduce to this my kid, but I don’t think I’m the right audience for this kind of toned book. I’m sure it will be find an audience without me. Nil rating.
