Ultimate Invasion #1 Spoilers and Review.
The book opens on the main Marvel Earth 616.
The Maker, a young Reed Richards from the original Ultimate Universe, and a major super-villain in his own right escapes his prison on the 616 Earth in macabre fashion.
He breaks into Fantastic Four headquarters to use the 616’s Reed Richards’ computer to determine what he needs to recreate an Ultimate Universe it would seem.
The 616’s Illuminati know that the Maker stole information and/or something(s) else from the Fantastic Four, but not sure what it was as he covered his tracks.
However, they know what he did after the break-in.
The Maker’s thefts included:
- Vibranium from Black Pather’s Wakanda.
- Four Terrigen Spheres from the Inhumans’ Arctilan.
- A Bridge from the Fantastic Four stored in Iron Man’s warehouse.
- A Krakoan Mutant Gateway from the X-Men.
- Doctor Strange’s Immunity Lance from his Sanctim Sanctorum in New York City.
- A Dilution Field from the ruins of Atlantis.
The Illuminati are wracking their brains to determine what the Maker is making.
Elsewhere, on the 616 the Maker visits the Miles Morales Spider-Man.
He reveals to Miles Morales that they two are the only survivors of the dead Ultimate Universe.
Apparently, Miles Morales knew along and this dead Ultimate Universe revelation appears new to the Maker.
The Maker plans to “go home” to the Ultimate Universe and asks Miles Morales if he would like to come along since they’re both multiversal refugees on the 616, but Morales declines.
The Illuminati track down the Maker and his new device cobbled together from the six stolen items.
However, despite their efforts the Illuminati cannot penetrate the Maker’s shield.
The Maker walks through the portal he created leaving the Illuminati defeated.
Next we seem to see a new universe forming.
A new Ultimate Universe on Earth 6160?!
It’s a world where and when the Maker saves a teenager from being bitten by an insect.
With that act, Earth 6160’s Peter Parker will not become the Amazing Spider-Man in the way he has on Earth 616 and on many other multiversal Earths.
The Pulse.
This four issue mini-series births a new Ultimate Universe line of books in a new universe that will have its own super-heroes despite the Maker’s efforts starting with Peter Parker. The writing was solid on this debut issue and was remarkably and engaging read as I whizzed through this book. The art conveys equal parts emotion and action and pairs well with the story. I am intrigued. 9 out of 10.
