The Philippines were a hot bed for exploitation filmmaking. International crews showed up wanting to take advantage of the jungle beauty of the islands. Eddie Romero and Gerry de León were local filmmakers who also made their own version of horror films for the world. The two directors teamed up with Hemisphere Films to create four The Blood Island films. Three of the films featured actor John Ashley who had previously starred in the Beach Party Films with Frankie and Annette. The Blood Island Films weren’t squeaky clean fun. Now the disturbing and grotesque gore is even more vivid with Severin releasing Fear In The Philippines: The Complete Blood Island Films on 4K UHD in March. You can pre-order now.
